"The story behind my business name"
I have a bachelor's degree in biology. I have worked as a biologist in the past but I am currently not employed due to health issues. Biology is still an integral part of my life though. I hate to share my photography without knowing first the name (common and scientific) of the species in it. I also volunteer at local parks and preserves when I feel up to it. "Eye" alludes to a camera eye but also to my sharp eyes for picking out details to identify species and find small things in the complexity of nature.
" What do you sell"
Mostly I sell nature photography in the form of prints, greeting cards, and postcards. I also have some photo jewelry made with jeweler's resin. I'm planning to add more resin jewelry with bit of real nature (insects, flowers, lichens, etc) preserved in them. I'd also like to include jewelry made with seashells and sea glass that I have collected.
"How did you get into your craft"
I've been into photographing nature since I was a little girl. My hobby really took off in college when I got my first digital camera. My aunt and sister got me interested in jewelry making in high school. Again this hobby didn't really take off until college. Resin is something new I have been learning since joining the Etsy community.
My shop has gone through an evolution since I opened it in
2008. I've changed the name several times before settling on The Biologist's Eye just last year. I originally joined Etsy to try to raise money for my favorite non-profit organization,
Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue. I still do so, but I have opened another shop, Beads for Bunnies, for this purpose. BeadsforBunnies
Thanks for letting me share my story, Lisa Appelbaum
